We are seeking to hire a Manager for our team of Venture Counsel, who are lawyers dedicated to supporting our startup clients in their corporate transactions, such as incorporations and early-stage financings. The Venture Counsel Manager will help design and scale our Venture Counsel program, including hiring and managing the Venture Counsel team. There is no billable hours target for this role, however, it is expected that some of the Manager’s supervisory work will be billable. The Venture Counsel Manager will also work closely with the leadership of the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice and our Innovation team to enhance our service delivery model for early-stage clients. Since the Venture Counsels will be working heavily with our newly launched software platform Neuron, the Venture Counsel Manager will play important roles in contributing to the continued design and improvement of the software and in designing the business processes around these automation and technology tools.

This role is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Responsibilities

-Primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of Venture Counsel.
-Provide mentorship and career guidance for Venture Counsel.
-Be a resource for Venture Counsel to answer questions and provide guidance on client projects.
-Play a key role in developing and delivering a comprehensive training program for Venture Counsel including substantive legal knowledge, use of technology and automation tools, and client service skills.
-Ensure that each Venture Counsel is achieving targets for productivity, efficiency, profitability and excellent client service.
-Manage staffing and Venture Counsel workload.
-Ensure that Venture Counsel are maximizing use of technology and automation tools.
-Conduct informal and formal performance reviews.
-Make recommendations on compensation and performance bonuses.
-Work closely with the recruiting team to identify and hire strong Venture Counsel candidates.
-Build relationships with target law schools to build pipeline of future hires.

Experience and Qualifications

-At least 5 years’ experience performing legal work for early stage technology and life sciences companies.
-Strong leadership and mentoring skills which translate into an engaged, high-performing team of Venture Counsel.
-Strong oral and writing skills and ability to serve as the public face of the Venture Counsel program internally and externally.
-Experience or willingness to learn, adopt, and shape the Venture Counsel program to facilitate a technology-enabled legal practice.
-JD required; member of the Utah bar (will consider candidates who are not currently admitted in Utah).
