Position Summary:

Provides advanced paralegal support for attorneys in the Litigation practice group. Acts as eDiscovery project lead and liaison with internal clients, outside counsel and external organizations with recognized expertise in specific area(s) including eDiscovery procedures such as litigation holds and familiarity with eDiscovery tools and systems. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources, particularly relating to eDiscovery. Provides guidance, training and supervision to other paralegal personnel.

Work closely with counsel and IT with respect to drafting initial preservation notices, reminders and revisions, monitor and release Legal Holds with delivery of ESI to outside counsel.

Assist counsel through various discovery phases including strategic discovery planning and ongoing case management.

Takes lead on developing and implementing eDiscovery best practices.

Work with the IT and with outside counsel to ensure electronic evidence within the organization is preserved, collected and analyzed as necessary to respond to requests for information in litigation and investigations.

eDiscovery Management



Plan and develop data management systems and procedures such as Counsel Link, NetDocs, etc.

Functions as a lead and technical resource on key processes and applications such as litigation intake, weekly case reporting, subpoena responses, using key applications; i.e., Counsel Link, Net Docs, iVOS, and Quovant.

Track and compile reports on court dockets for active litigation, including identifying different phases of litigation and deadlines for the various practice areas in the litigation group.

Responsible for regular notifications to and interaction with relevant individuals at University of California Office of the President Risk, campus counsel, campus risk, third-party administrator Sedgwick, and outside counsel including reporting on legal hold compliance and manage escalation for non-compliance.

Independently identify, gather and present relevant information for projects and assignments.

Litigation Support



Acts as a resource to lower-level paralegals and provides guidance to legal support staff and coordinates work in the absence of attorneys.



Job Requirements

Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Mastery of a significant body of legal knowledge relating to one or more legal practice areas gained through at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience as a paralegal working in a commercial firm, government or educational institution.

Extensive experience experience designing and managing complex, large-scale eDiscovery projects.

Strong technical skills related to the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), other relational databases, electronic mail, and the Internet.

Excellent project management skills.

Deep understanding of the litigation lifecycle and legal hold process and technology.

Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.


Paralegal Certificate

Thorough knowledge of UC processes, protocols and procedures.
