Position Summary:

As a member of the Firm’s Revenue Management team, the Manager, Practice Group Finance & LPM will work closely with attorneys in a large, high volume litigation practice to develop and track comprehensive and realistic budgets, assist with the finance portion of RFP responses, and prepare and provide client and attorney requested reports and data, including accruals.  This position will also assist in establishing best practices and operational procedures to ensure client relationship and matter support.  Will collaborate with practice attorneys, firm finance, accounting and IT departments, and client legal operations teams.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develops budgets with pricing and staffing scenarios that meet client needs and firm profit objectives

Establishes budgets using budgeting software and monitors performance against actuals

Reviews budget to actual status, raises deviations with attorneys, and leads discussion of corrective action

Creates specific matter plans that are in line with client and attorney objectives to better track performance

Develops standardized practice group, client, and matter level processes and procedures to assure ease of administration of work and data and metric collection for reporting

Prepares monthly and/or quarterly accruals data and oversees attorney review and submission to clients;

Coordinates data gathering and analysis for annual client reviews and presentations

Provides detailed RFP input for plans and budgets related to prospective new matters, particularly where Alternative Fee Arrangements (non-hourly) are being proposed

Assists attorney team with ad hoc financial requests and provide recommendations for reporting consistency and accuracy

Works with attorneys to create rate cards when required by RFPs

Collaborates with IT to develop various automated reports to increase efficiency

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to assess management needs and craft innovative solutions to meet specific firm and client objectives

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation. Including active listening and ability to convey information clearly

Candidate must be a self-starter who can work independently

Strong organizational skills, with the capability of managing multiple projects efficiently

Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines, adapt to a fast paced high pressure environment to achieve business goals and objectives

Qualifications & Prior Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field from an accredited university required

Specialization in Finance, Accounting or similar quantitative focus preferred

3-5 years related experience required in professional services operations, preferably legal operations, legal project management and pricing, practice management

Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite required, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, formulas, macros)
