Serve as the Global Lead for Global Legal Operations by delivering high-quality operational systems excellence to Global Legal and CSL community. As part of this role, the incumbent will: 1) provide strategic leadership on process improvement, technology, structure, guidance, and organizational strategy for the Global Legal Operations team; 2) represent the Legal Operations team to Global Legal; 3) serve as a liaison between Legal Operations and its global clientele; 4) manage a global team of Legal Operations Specialists; and 5) Provide implementation, maintenance and user support for designated systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. External Counsel Management Program
Serve as the global program management lead for external counsel management. Implement strategic initiatives for development and maintenance of: external counsel and service provider guidelines; administration of standardized rate increase request process; alternative fee arrangements; law firm performance scorecards; annual external counsel educational meetings; other external counsel and service provider programs; Negotiate and manage key law firm and service provider relationships (including fee arrangements) under the guidance of the Global Head of Legal Operations and Services, that involves: overseeing company’s relationship with outside counsel and service providers, (including negotiating and managing staffing and support for various projects and establishing budgets and tracking tools using various types of fee arrangements and dashboards); and driving efficient relationships with external counsel and service providers, with focus on reducing aggregate costs, increasing effective use of external resources, enhancing transparency/visibility, and implementing greater controls to monitor and aid Legal’s management of external costs. Manage resources involving e-billing and related issues and law firm communications. Develop and distribute annual external counsel and service provider cost avoidance/cost savings report. Collaborate with the Head of Legal Services on technology and systems implementations to ensure best practices are consistently applied globally. Provide guidance, training and support for CLM, e-billing and matter management platforms. Other duties and tasks as assigned.
B. Systems Operational Center of Excellence
Serve as global platform owner of the company’s Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system.
Liaise with global users of CSL global CLM system to effect improvements to system functionality, taking into account global impacts. Lead application for, and manage capital projects/software implementations through CSL’s global capital projects program. Leverage global team of Systems Specialists to provide enhanced user experience for Legal department systems. Implement Knowledge Management System for CSL Global Legal.
Managing Internal Resources and Technology Solutions
Assess all Global Legal resources (internal and external) related to matter management, knowledge management, eDiscovery, document management, and billing management, and implement best-in-class technology, systems, and processes for maximum efficiency and consistency across Global Legal. Source, evaluate, test, train, implement, and support technology solutions throughout Global Legal. Act as system owner for legal department tools and technology, including matter management, e-billing, and knowledge management. Participate in development and maintenance of performance metrics. Provide guidance, mentorship and growth opportunities for global Legal Operations staff.
Additional Internal Functions
Define, develop, and manage a program for continuing legal education, as well as research and library tools/subscriptions. Develop and administer bi-annual business client satisfaction survey.
Identify and implement, in collaboration with Global Head, process improvements and solutions around departmental organizational structure, systems, technologies, and controls. Support and manage various ad hoc projects within Legal Operations as and when they arise.

Education (Minimum education required for the role. This includes degrees, licenses, and certifications that are required to perform the job.): Bachelor’s degree – Juris Doctor or international equivalent preferred, but not essential, MBA or equivalent preferred, but not essential.
Experience (Minimum years of experience and knowledge required to perform the job.): 7+ years’ experience managing people and systems. A minimum of 7 years’ experience implementing, operationalizing and/or maintaining e-billing, CLM and knowledge management systems. Pharmaceutical or biotech experience a plus. International experience a plus.

Superior project management skills and strong organizational skills. Fluent in written and spoken English. Written and spoken skills in German, Mandarin or Japanese, a plus, but not required. Ability to effectively interface with company executives. Ability to create and enforce processes across a global team. Superior computer literacy including competency in Microsoft Office suite; ability to quickly learn company’s contract life-cycle management system. Strong written and communication skills. Ability to independently lead implementation and adaptation of systems and processes globally. Ability to managing conflicting priorities amongst global stakeholders. Effectively collaborate within the Legal Operations and Services function to drive common objectives. Cultivates talent and creates development opportunities. Experience working in a corporate business department a plus. Process improvement/Six Sigma project management experience, a plus.

Travel Requirements (Domestic, International, frequency)
· Approximately, 10% domestic and international overnight travel is required.
